I did a lot of preliminary on collagen before I decided to create my Edelweiss and Vitamin C Antioxidant cream. I initially became interested in collagen supplement efficacy when I see my mom paying hand over fist for supplement pills. As I delve into the research, I saw one study after another on the effect or no effect of collagen on various functions in the body.
FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS COLLAGEN?
Collagen* (1) is the elixir of youth and beauty that our body produces naturally. It makes our skin elastic so our skin bounces back, moist and supple, helps make our hair shiny and strong, and provides fat between our joints so our joints do ache. But as we age, collagen decreases in production. In our 20s, collagen production starts to decrease but the real effect of that is not visible until we’re in our 30s and we will really feel the effect of collagen limited production in our 40s and 50s when we get joint pains. So you see collagen is massively important to looking and feeling young.
SO WHAT DO WE DO TO INCREASE COLLAGEN PRODUCTION? HOW DO WE REPLACE COLLAGEN IN OUR BODIES?
A multitude of research has not found any beneficial effects to skin and nail by ingesting collagen. all of the studies* ( 2, 3, 4). It shows that once collagen supplements are ingested, it goes into our GI System and is broken down by acids and discarded as bodily waste since the molecules are too large to travel back into the body provide collagen to the skin, hair, and nails.
SO WHAT’S THE PREFERRED WAY TO BOOST COLLAGEN PRODUCTION?
Wear sunscreen to reduce skin damage. Creams with Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid work together to fight free radicals and boost collagen production (*5)
After my research, I developed my Edelweiss Antioxidant Cream (contains Vitamin C).
EDELWEISS BENEFICIAL EFFECTS ON THE SKIN INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Protection from ultraviolet radiation – Sunlight is the most common cause of premature aging. Excessive sun exposure, especially during midday when the intensity of UV rays is very high, can lead to coarse wrinkles, solar lentigines, increased freckling, and a yellow cobblestone appearance of skin. Edelweiss extracts have a high concentration of flavonoids and phenolic acid that aid to fight UV-induced damage and make it an ideal constituent of sunblocks. The same constituents that protect the flower from strong ultraviolet rays at high altitudes also protect our skin from sun damage.
- Anti-aging properties – The flower is loaded with antioxidants that scavenge the harmful free radicals and can reverse the age clock. Tea made from an infusion of Edelweiss flowers is non-toxic and has antiaging benefits.
- Anti-inflammatory – It has certain active ingredients such as bisabolol, tricyclic sesquiterpenes, coumarins, and lignans present in its roots that are curative for dermatitis and fluid retention.
- Stem Cell Therapy – Edelweiss plant stem cells extracted from its apical meristem stimulate our skin stem cells and protect it in the same way as the plant defends itself against the harsh climatic conditions. It has a high concentration of Leontopodic acids A and B that have antioxidant properties. They stimulate increased production of hyaluronic acid and prevent collagen degradation, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Thus, I loaded our anti-aging cream with organic edelweiss extract and vitamin C Ester. To help boost collagen production and reverse signs of aging.
